On 23rd July the 32nd Takarazuka International Choir Competiton was held, bringing all the highest prizes to youth choir "Kamēr..." and its conductor Jānis Liepiņš: three golden medals in all the categories of the contest, as well as the audience award and Grand Prix of the competition.

This year, Takarazuka competition summoned around 20 choirs and ensembles which competed in one or more categories (renaissance/baroque, romanticism, contemporary) and were judged both by a professional jury. In addition to these categories, where "Kamēr..." sang pieces by Purcell, Bach, Brahms, Rehnqvist and others, the vast majority of the audience chose "Kamēr..." from amidst of 5 groups as the receiver of the audience prize too.

Youth choir "Kamēr..." and its conductor Jānis Liepiņš invites you to a major concert on 3rd April (6 pm) in St. John's church, Riga. Its title "Vasks. Tabakova. Pärt" already hints its contents, namely pieces for choir and string orchestra by Pēteris Vasks, who is celebrating his 70th birthday this year, Arvo Pärt who turned 80 last year and the young Bulgarian-British composer Dobrinka Tabakova.

Two of the compositions will be performed in Latvia for the first time - Pärt's "Stabat mater" for mixed choir and string orchestra and Tabakova's "Centuries of Meditation" for choir, string orchestra and harp solo. Both will take place in the middle part of the concert and will be surrounded by music of Vasks, who is a lasting partner, friend, advisor and supporter of the choir, having dedicated several opuses to "Kamēr...". This time, the first and the third part from the cycle "3 Poems by Czeslaw Milosz" and the meditative "The Fruit of Silence" will be performed.

Tickets are available on www.bilesuparadize.lv or at their box offices.

A review of our CD Amber Songs has been published at MusicWeb by John Quinn:

... young singers of Kamēr seem completely at ease with all the pieces. Furthermore, their singing is exceptionally good in all respects. The sound of the choir is very pleasing and there’s a freshness to everything they do. ...

In the eve of the third Sunday of the Advent, namely 13th December at 6pm, youth choir "Kamēr..." invites you to a concert of sacred music at St John's church in Riga.

As a conclusion of the choir's 25 year anniversary season, the concert will feature master pieces from renaissance to contemporary composers, such as Gesualdo, Purcell, Bach, Brahms, Mendelssohn–Bartholdi, Bird, Gretchaninov, Rachmaninov, Part and Esenvalds.

Artistic director and principal conductor of the choir Jānis Liepiņš elaborates: "In contrast to our most recent projects that were more focused on conceptual designs and world premieres, this concert will be our gift to the admirers of classic sacred choral music; one will be able to savor the most beautiful opuses from various styles and eras and to enjoy harmony, piece and thankfulness in music."

We are looking forward to seeing you at the concert!
