Aivis Greters, who previously worked as the choir’s second conductor, has been named the Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of Youth Choir Kamēr…

Aivis Greters has sung with Kamēr… since 2009 and has been the choir’s second conductor since 2012. He earned his bachelor’s degree in choral conducting from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA), studying under Professor Jānis Lindenbergs and Associate Professor Andris Veismanis. He further developed his skills at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. Currently, Greters is completing further studies at JVLMA, studying orchestral conducting under Associate Professor Mārtiņš Ozoliņš. In 2013, Greters won 1st place at the Imants Kokars 1st International Young Conductors Competition; in 2014 he won a special prize at the Jāzeps Vītols International Choral Conductors competition, and in 2017 he won 1st place at the Nordic Choir Conductor Competition in Denmark.

The choir’s previous Artistic Director, Jānis Liepiņš, who led the choir from 2012, will continue his career at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet while also focusing on new professional challenges in Latvia and abroad. Under Jānis Liepiņš’ leadership, Kamēr… secured wins at several international competitions, including becoming a two-time winner of the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing and triumphing at the XXVI Latvian Song Festival Choir Competition. Led by Liepiņš, Kamer… completed ambitious projects such as The Canticles of the Holy Wind, Amber Songs and Kalpotājs. Blumbergs. Kamēr… The choir’s newest album, Pelēcis. Plakidis. Kamēr…, is the joint work of both Liepiņš and Greters.

As always at the start of the season, the choir is publicising auditions for new members in all voice parts - these will take place on the 29th and 30th of August at 18:00 at the Riga State Gymnasium No. 1.
